The Academy Schools and the special education staff members believe that every child can
achieve his or her potential in a variety of environments and become a productive member of
society.

The Academy School’s curriculum is intended to:

•        Address the challenges of incorporating academically based standards designed for the
typically developing students and applying them to students with moderate to severe disabilities
who may lack the prerequisite skills to fully access these academic standards.
•        Align functional skills with the standards while allowing for the unique developmental,
medical and behavioral needs of this population.
•        Be based on the core areas in the California State Department of Education Curriculum
Frameworks.
•        Provide our students with access to all of the standards detailed at the California Alternate
Performance Assessment (C.A.P.A.) Core Curriculum Access which is the basis for The Academy
Schools.
•        Be individualized and modified according to our students’ unique needs by prioritizing those
standards most appropriate for a functional skills-based curriculum for our Preschool through
Twelfth-Grade program
and Adult Vocational program.
